Getting Started

We enter hardcourt volleyball teams in the WA Volleyball Junior League (WAVJL), Perth Volleyball League (PVL) and WA Volleyball League (WAVL).

Players can try out for any of our teams. Many of our Junior athletes decide to play in PVL/WAVL in addition to/instead of Junior League, and we are happy to discuss these options with you to ensure every Southern Cross athlete is given access to the best possible environment to develop their skills.

Once in a team, training is held once a week at Wesley College in South Perth.

To play in VWA competitions, our members need:
1. A VWA membership (available from VWA here)
2. Southern Cross membership (find our membership form here)
3. Team uniform (order form coming soon)

To join our club, please contact us!

Junior Volleyball

WAVJL caters for athletes from year 5 to year 12, and is played on Friday evenings. Games run for 50 minutes, with a 10 minute warmup, and are played at a range of venues around Perth. More information is available from VWA here.

Junior League games run from May to August (with game breaks for school holidays).

PVL and WAVL are multi-division competitions that provide an avenue for players of all levels to play competitive club volleyball. Unlike Junior League, divisions are arranged by skill level, not age, and are played at Loftus Stadium on Sundays (and some Friday nights), from May to September. Divisions run from Super League 1 for WA’s top volleyball players to divisions in Perth Volleyball League for beginners and developing players. Southern Cross athletes are placed into teams based on their performance at club grading sessions which occur at the start of the season.

More information on WAVL is available from VWA here.

Many Southern Cross members play competitive beach volleyball during the indoor off-season. Southern Cross members have represented their universities at the Australian University Games, winning division A medals and also the Green and Gold (Australian MVP) award for beach volleyball. Many of our members also play in Western Australia’s premier beach volleyball competition – the Alcohol Think Again Beach Volleyball Tour. A Beach Junior League is also available for juniors, and starts in October – please contact us if you would like more information on junior beach volleyball.

SCVC is very careful about our fee structure. To minimize cost to players, we determine the cost of game fees based on the number of players in each team.
