We are a Volleyball WA affiliated club based in South Perth, Western Australia. Our teams play in the WA Volleyball Junior League and the WA Volleyball League. We are committed to providing a positive and supportive environment for volleyball skill development and competition. We seek to promote personal and team development and provide an avenue for players of all ages and levels to play competitive volleyball.
All our coaches are fully accredited with Volleyball Australia.
Our Head Coaches, and coaches with accreditations Level 3 National and above are mentors for our up and coming coaches. We take great pride in our coaches abilities. The sport wouldn't be what it is without we these volunteers.
We are always looking for committed coaches. Whether you are interested in head coaching, assistant coaching or are interested in learning how to coach volleyball we are always happy to hear from you.
Laurel Wentworth
Laurel started Volleyball in year 7, and went on to represent the ACT, NSW and WA at junior and senior level. She was a member of the Australian Women’s Teams from 1984 – 1996, including a two year captainacy. In Perth, Laurel played in State League for almost 20 years, 15 of those at Southern Cross Volleyball Club.
Laurel began coaching in 2002, coaching WA State Junior and Senior teams ever since. She is passionate about the development of athletes and growth of the sport. Both challenging and rewarding, she enjoys the opportunity to share her knowledge and experience with others.
Laurel has been our Women’s Head coach at Southern Cross VC since 2022 and looks forward to building a competitive Women’s program.
David Hedge
David has been playing volleyball for more than 30 years, currently playing in the WA Volleyball League in addition to the last 3 World Masters Games, numerous Pan Pacific Masters and Australian Masters Games. He holds an Order of Merit and Life Membership by Volleyball WA and is qualified as a Level 3 Elite coach.
Throughout playing, David has been heavily involved as a coach including Senior and Junior WAVL, State teams at AJVC and the SSWA. He is extremely passionate about teaching the fundamentals of volleyball to young players as well as ensuring that playing is always an enjoyable experience.
Stephen Page
Steve started playing social volleyball in 1985. After a number of years playing social, he joined Southern Cross in 2001 to play in the Perth Volleyball League. He played State League, State League Reserves and Division 1. He has been coaching at various levels since 2003, including State League men and women, four years at Australian Junior Volleyball Championships and five years at Australian Volleyball Schools Cup including coaching teams to one gold and one silver medal.
He has been coaching WA Junior League teams for the last five years, for one gold and one silver medal and is currently focussed on the development of junior volleyball through Junior League and the many junior programs currently running at Southern Cross VC.
